Images of a statue of Elon Musk being towed by a Cybertruck through Texas caught the attention of Tesla influencers and electric vehicle websites.
A statue of Elon Musk is being towed around South Texas by a Tesla Cybertruck, and it’s quickly becoming a viral sensation.
The statue, which is part of a project by ElonRWA, is based on a famously bad drawing of Musk that was commissioned by the group and has since become a meme. Standing at 106″ x 96″ x 66″, the statue is certainly hard to miss, especially as it’s being towed by the futuristic Cybertruck.
According to Torque News, the statue was spotted in Brownsville, Texas, which is also home to SpaceX’s Starbase. ElonRWA, which describes itself as a “decentralized autonomous organization,” is aiming to build a ‘Elon Musk Sculpture Park’ in South Texas, with the statue being its first project and an attempt to physically display a meme in the real world.
The statue is also likely intended to draw attention to the ElonRWA meme coin, which is aiming to build a community around the statue and Musk himself.
The original drawing of Musk was shared on the Reddit forum five years ago and quickly attracted a lot of attention, with many commenting on the poor likeness. The drawing eventually made its way to Musk, who responded by saying that it was “like looking into the mirror.”
ElonRWA has reportedly acquired the original drawing and turned it into an NFT. The group also painted a mural of the drawing in Brownsville last year.
Musk has not been shy about expressing his dislike for NFTs in the past, so it’s unlikely that the statue and the coin behind the project will generate a positive reaction from the billionaire.
Musk also previously ignored a 30-foot, 12,000-pound metal statue made of him by the co-founders of crypto token Elon Goat, which was sent to Tesla’s headquarters in Austin, Texas. The statue depicted Musk’s head on a goat’s body riding a rocket, with the goat being a reference to Musk being the “greatest of all time,” an acronym commonly used for athletes.
The self-proclaimed Elon Superfans that launched the Elon Goat statue failed to get Musk’s attention despite their grand gesture.
