Celtic's Arne Engels hit by coin in Old Firm chaos as Rangers claim derby triumph

Celtic midfielder Arne Engels was hit by a coin in the closing stages of the Old Firm clash at Ibrox on Thursday night.

Engels collapsed to the ground clutching his head after being hit by an object thrown from the Rangers end.

Players from both sides ran over to the scene of the incident as the linesman retrieved an object from the floor before passing it onto match referee Don Robertson.

Engels, who was a second-half substitute, carried on after receiving treatment and thankfully avoided any serious injury.

The referee then passed the coin - thought to be a £1 coin - to the fourth official, who handed it over to a policeman inside the stadium.

The policeman bagged the object before the game resumed.

"Absolutely ridiculous," Chris Sutton bemoaned on commentary while co-commentator Neil McCann added: "That is disgusting. There is no place for that in football."

Rangers claimed a famous 3-0 win over their local rivals with Ianis Hagi opening the scoring in the seventh minute.

The hosts bagged two second-half goals to secure all three points and bragging rights.

Robin Propper doubled his side's lead before Danilo netted nine minutes from time.

It's a first Old Firm derby triumph at the seventh attempt for Philippe Clement, who eases the pressure on his position.

Rangers, however, remain 11 points adrift of Celtic, who suffer their first league defeat of the season.
