The initiative, orchestrated by Christie’s in collaboration with Switzerland for UNHCR, brought together eleven leading digital artists. Among them were recognized talents such as Andreas Gysin, Deafbeef, Emi Kusano, and IX Shells, who contributed to this historic sale.

The project, inspired by the theme “Stranieri Ovunque” (Strangers Everywhere) of the 60th Venice Biennale, particularly captivated during the physical event organized in Geneva last week, thus attracting many traditional collectors.

The success of this sale is notably based on the participation of Vinnie Hager, whose work “Handle With Care” was selected from nearly 200 international submissions.

This reinterpretation of the famous Chromie Squiggle, created by Erick Calderon (Snowfro), perfectly illustrates the ability of digital art to transcend cultural and technological boundaries.

Blockchain in the service of humanitarian efforts

This sale marks a decisive turning point in the use of blockchain technologies to support humanitarian causes. Leila Khazaneh, innovation advisor for Switzerland for UNHCR and initiator of the project, has successfully created bridges between the world of digital art and humanitarian action.

The collaboration with Micol Ap, founder of VerticalCrypto Art, attracted both traditional collectors and crypto-art enthusiasts.

The event benefited from the strategic support of Sygnum, a banking group specialized in digital assets, demonstrating the growing commitment of the traditional financial sector to socially impactful blockchain projects.

The funds raised will allow UNHCR to continue its essential missions in over 130 countries, providing protection and assistance to displaced persons.
