Sep 23, 2024 at 04:00 am

The Auburn Tigers dropped a home game that it was favored to win for the second time in the last three weeks. Despite the 24-14 loss at the hands of the Razorbacks, some of Auburn's players had good performances they will hope to replicate next week.

Auburn Football Stock Report: Who Improved and Regressed vs Arkansas?

Auburn dropped its second home game in the last three weeks with a 24-14 loss to Arkansas on Saturday.

Here's a look at which Auburn players helped and hurt their stock with their performances against the Razorbacks:

Stock risers:

- QB Payton Thorne: After a rough outing against Cal that saw him benched in the second half after throwing four interceptions, Thorne played well in relief of Hank Brown against Arkansas. Thorne went 13-of-22 for 213 yards and two touchdowns with one interception, though it came on a pass that was tipped and appeared to be a catchable ball for freshman wide receiver Cam Coleman. Head coach Hugh Freeze said after the game that Thorne played well enough to earn consideration for starting next week, though he was not ready to officially name him the starter.

- WR KeAndre Lambert-Smith: Lambert-Smith was Auburn's leading receiver by a mile on Saturday, catching five passes for 156 yards and two touchdowns. The Tigers' next-closest receiver was Malcolm Simmons, who caught five passes for 44 yards. Through three games, Lambert-Smith leads Auburn in catches (12), receiving yards (338) and touchdowns (five).

- DB Jerrin Thompson: Thompson played a key role in limiting Arkansas' success moving the ball through the air on Saturday. Thompson finished the game with seven tackles, one sack and one pass breakup. The Tigers' secondary seemed to play better with Thompson on the field.

Stock fallers:

- QB Hank Brown: Coming off a successful outing in his first career start against New Mexico, Brown earned the start again on Saturday against Arkansas. However, the step up in competition appeared to be too much for the young quarterback. Brown was benched after the first half, going 7-of-13 for 72 yards and three interceptions.

- WR Cam Coleman: Auburn's star freshman wide receiver was limited to two receptions for 15 yards on Saturday. Coleman also tipped a pass that ended up getting intercepted. It's worth noting that Coleman missed the New Mexico game with a shoulder injury and likely was not at 100% against Arkansas.

- RB Damari Alston: Alston was Auburn's second-leading rusher behind Jarquez Hunter on Saturday, picking up 38 yards off three carries. Alston did make an impactful error, though. He had a 36-yard rush that ended in a fumble Arkansas recovered in the end zone. The drive had a high probability of ending in a game-tying touchdown for Auburn towards the end of the first half.

Next up: Auburn hosts No. 21 Oklahoma next Saturday at 2:30 p.m. CT.
