Currently, only Tether (USDT) and USD Coin (USDC) have a market capitalization exceeding $10 billion.

The act also requires monthly audited reports on stablecoin reserves, with penalties for false reporting, and outlines clear procedures for institutions seeking licenses to issue stablecoins.

It establishes reserve requirements, tailored regulatory standards, and supervisory, examination, and enforcement mechanisms with defined limitations.

In a statement, Hagerty highlighted the potential benefits of stablecoin innovation, such as enhancing transaction efficiency and boosting demand for US Treasuries. He emphasized the broad advantages of fostering strong stablecoin development.

The bill is co-sponsored by Senators Kirsten Gillibrand, Tim Scott, and Cynthia Lummis. In a social media post, Lummis highlighted 2025 as a pivotal year for digital assets and stated that the US must take action to prevent other countries from leading in stablecoin regulation.

Fox Business reporter Eleanor Terrett reported that the bill is expected to advance swiftly.
