A coin collector has urged Brits to check their change after revealing the rarest 50p in circulation is now worth up to £110.

The lucky coin features a salmon design and was released into circulation earlier this year. Only 200,000 of the coins were minted, making them incredibly rare.

TikTok user @changechecker posted a video showing off the coin and explaining its rarity.

He told followers: “Check your change” for the coin. “The rarest coin in the UK. This is the 2023 King Charles salmon, and this is an immaculate condition.”

This coin is particularly rare because relatively few were ever made, to begin with.

“This is one of 200,000, and this has come straight from a sealed bag,” he continued.

The Royal Mint website confirms that the salmon coin is currently the rarest 50p in circulation.

As the nation’s most collectable coin, the 50p has seen more than 100 different designs appear on its reverse since its introduction.

On December 30, three Atlantic salmon coins were sold on eBay, each at slightly different prices - one for £102, one for £110.79 and another for £98.99.
