The absence of Ethereum and the rise of layer-2 solutions

It is noteworthy that Ethereum is not included in this list. This can be interpreted as a reaction to Ethereum’s scaling problems and high transaction fees. Layer-2 networks such as Optimism and Starknet on the list aim to solve these problems of Ethereum, and this attracts great attention from developers.

Although Starknet had not been featured much in previous developer lists, it made a significant jump, reaching 5th place on the May list. This shows the recent increasing popularity of Starknet and its adoption by developers.

There is also criticism that developer activity is artificially inflated on Github pages of cryptocurrency projects, with some spammy code changes. Santiment states that it uses a special method to filter these spam activities and thus provides realistic data.
