김남국 전 의원, 최후 변론서 울며 무죄 주장

검찰이 10여건의 불법정보를 숨긴 혐의로 기소된 김남국 전 더불어민주당 의원에게 징역 6개월을 구형했다.

Former Democratic Party of Korea lawmaker Kim Nam-guk, who was indicted for hiding nearly 10 billion won ($7.8 million) in virtual currency (coins) and falsely reporting his assets to the National Assembly, faced prosecutors' demand for a six-month prison term at his final hearing on Friday.

100억 원에 가까운 가상화폐(동전)를 은닉하고 자신의 재산을 허위로 국회에 신고한 혐의로 기소된 김남국 전 더불어민주당 의원이 검찰로부터 징역 6개월을 구형받았다. 금요일 마지막 청문회에서 임기.

Kim was accused of transferring some of the coin deposits to a bank account to match the total amount of his assets and changing the rest of the deposits into coins to hinder the review of the changes in the assets of the National Assembly's public officials ethics committee.

김씨는 자신의 자산총액에 맞춰 코인 예금 중 일부를 은행계좌로 이체하고, 나머지 예금을 코인으로 바꿔 국회 공직자윤리위원회의 자산 변동 심의를 방해한 혐의를 받고 있다.

The committee would have examined the process of property formation if the property of the National Assembly increased rapidly and would have made a written request, the prosecution said during the hearing at the Seoul Southern District Court.

검찰은 서울남부지법 심리에서 “국회 재산이 급증하면 재산 형성 과정을 검토해 서면으로 요청했을 것”이라고 말했다.

"In the process, the defendant would have known that he had a large amount of coin deposits," a prosecutor said.

검찰 관계자는 “이 과정에서 피고인은 자신이 다량의 코인 예치금을 갖고 있다는 사실을 알았을 것”이라고 말했다.

The former lawmaker cried at the final hearing and pleaded not guilty.

전 의원은 최종 변론에서 눈물을 흘리며 무죄를 주장했다.

"I was elected as a member of the National Assembly, and I didn't receive anything that was rice cake, bungeoppang and gave me in good faith," Kim said, crying.

김 의원은 “국회의원에 당선됐는데 떡, 붕어빵 등 선의로 준 것 하나도 받지 못했다”며 눈물을 흘렸다.

"I knew it was difficult to live pure and clean in politics, but I didn't want to live (illegally) if I didn't do politics."

“정치에서 순수하고 깨끗하게 산다는 게 어렵다는 걸 알았지만, 정치를 하지 않으면 (불법적으로) 살고 싶지 않았어요.”

Kim is accused of hiding the fact that he made huge profits from coin investments during the National Assembly's property declaration twice in 2021 and 2022.

김씨는 2021년과 2022년 두 차례 국회 재산공개 과정에서 코인 투자로 막대한 수익을 냈다는 사실을 숨긴 혐의를 받고 있다.

Prosecutors believe that Kim hid his holdings of about 9.9 billion won in coin deposits during the 2021 property reporting process, reported his total assets to about 1.2 billion won and concealed about 990 million won in the same way in 2022.

검찰은 김씨가 2021년 재산신고 과정에서 보유 코인예금 약 99억원을 숨기고, 2022년에도 총자산을 약 12억원으로 신고했으며, 약 9억9000만원을 같은 방법으로 은폐한 것으로 보고 있다.

Sentencing will be held at 2 p.m. on February 10 next year.

선고는 내년 2월 10일 오후 2시에 열린다.
