Bitstamp has obtained a Markets in Financial Instruments Directive (MiFID) MTF license from the Slovenian Agency for Securities Markets, which also provides Bitstamp Financial Services with an EU passport.

Now authorised to offer crypto derivatives, including perpetual swaps, Bistamp will be able to offer its institutional clients and brokers a more specialised product.

MiFID is a European Union financial regulatory framework covering markets, securities and investment services, and applies to trading venues, investment managers and portfolio management companies.

The MiFID MTF license from the Slovenian authority is one of the first to be granted to a crypto exchange, and comes ahead of the EU’s Markets in Crypto Assets (MiCA) legislation. The MiFID MTF license, however, will enable clients of Bistamp to trade EU-regulated crypto derivatives.
