UNICEF Encourages Parents in Lubumbashi to Vaccinate Their Children

On Friday, April 26, four young UNICEF reporters visited the Mampala 1 Health Center in Lubumbashi, Haut-Katanga, to encourage parents to keep their children's vaccination records up to date during the ongoing vaccination week.

Esther Balenga, a parent from Lubumbashi, explained why her children had missed some vaccinations: "Only two of my children have not been fully vaccinated. My son is 2 years old, and my daughter is 1 year and 6 months old. We were constantly traveling, and I was unable to get them all the necessary vaccines."

Lydie Mbuyi, a nurse at the Mubunda 2 Health Center, urged parents to bring their children in for vaccinations: "Mothers should bring their children to the health center to receive their vaccines. Vaccination is an act of love. We are here to help them."

Katanga Musau, a UNICEF junior reporter, emphasized the importance of fathers' involvement in their children's vaccination schedules: "I urge men to accompany their wives to the hospital for vaccinations. It is crucial for the well-being of their children and their relationships. When a father actively monitors his child's development, he can identify any deficiencies or issues. Sometimes, women may overlook certain aspects, which is why it is essential for men to be involved. Their presence ensures that the child's health is taken seriously."
