YTL Brabazon New Town: 'Most sustainable' new town in the UK to be created by Malaysian-owned YTL Group

The development of the YTL Brabazon New Town, touted as the "most sustainable" new town in the UK, has officially commenced with the launch by Malaysian Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim during his visit to England.

The new town, being created by the Malaysian-owned YTL Group, will feature 6,500 homes, a 15-acre park, and a carbon-neutral entertainment complex.

The development aims to transform the Filton Airfield site into a "15-minute neighbourhood," allowing residents to access essential services within a quarter of an hour radius of their home.

It will include three new schools, the largest urban park in the South West in over 50 years, and the YTL Arena Bristol, a 19,500-capacity arena set to be the "most sustainable arena in Europe."

The arena will be carbon-neutral and host events and performances 365 days a year.

The development will also encompass creative office spaces, laboratories, and advanced manufacturing facilities, creating over 30,000 jobs for the UK economy.

YTL, the largest Malaysian investor in the UK, first invested in the country in 2002 with the purchase of Wessex Water.

Since then, YTL businesses have expanded into the hospitality and real estate sectors in the UK.

The announcement of the £4 billion investment by YTL businesses in the UK over the next five years is part of an official visit to celebrate the new Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) trade agreement between Great Britain and the Indo-Pacific region.

The new deal will facilitate closer collaboration between YTL in the UK and Malaysia.

Tan Sri Dato’ Sir Francis Yeoh Sock Ping, executive chairman of YTL Group, said: "Our UK businesses are committing to invest £4bn into the country over the next five years.

"Brabazon is a rare opportunity to re-imagine how best to live, work, and play in today’s world whilst ensuring that sustainability is built into the development from conceptualisation."
