Six Filipino startups recently graduated from Block Dojo’s second cohort in the Philippines. Among them were Clarice Cabanlit, founder of Willow, and Jynon Mapa, founder of Park King. Both founders shared how venture builders like Block Dojo PH have been largely helpful in refining their business trajectory and decision-making. Hear from them in this CoinGeek interview with Claire Celdran.

Cabanlit and Mapa shared their experiences during Block Dojo Investors Night in July. The event showcased the six graduating startups from the second cohort and gave them a chance to connect with potential investors.

Cabanlit’s startup, Willow, is a mental coaching app that aims to help more people with mental health issues. She shared how joining Cohort 2 has helped her be more disciplined in her business model.

“I’ve been in the mental health industry for quite some time now—coaching, training individuals. But being an entrepreneur, I always find myself needing to be more organized, structured. And Block Dojo really helped accelerate my business in the 12-week program,” Cabanlit said.

She explained how Block Dojo’s support helped her clarify the business, who it serves and the problem it solves.

“I think that’s the biggest [impact], just having clarity, having people just being there, challenging my ideas and helping me really challenge myself and having that accountability of why [I am here],” she said.

Cabanlit also highlighted the experience of the venture builder’s mentors in various fields, including finance, legal and design, which was “very instrumental” in guiding her about the different aspects of a business for Willow to be more sustainable and help many people.

“They’re really able to guide me in terms of the different aspects of the business for us to be able to sustain this and really help many people,” she added.

Mapa’s startup, Park King, is a mobile application that eases the hassle of driving in Metro Manila. He shared how Block Dojo’s venture builders leave a legacy for startups like his.

“We have to be there three times a week, and then there will be more mentorship, [networking] and masterclasses. [Those] teach us about grit and building momentum because it’s all about building partnership, building your team, building your product to be customer-centric,” Mapa said.

“They really help us in terms of being ready to scale. One thing I can commend with the venture builder is they claim that they are not the masters of startups, but they polish a startup’s framework.”

“Making everyday decisions optimizable and productive, that’s the value they’re giving,” he added.

Block Dojo Philippines is a unit of global venture builder Block Dojo, which is headquartered in the United Kingdom and has helped over 71 startups reach their dreams.
