ver had these characteristics that made them good moneyoutput:title: Should Catholics Embrace Bitcoin or Hold It in Suspicion?
Nov 22, 2024 at 09:45 pm
Bitcoin's price is rising again. Now there's talk the United States might set up a strategic Bitcoin reserve. But our question is, should Catholics embrace
and silver made the best money.
And so when you look at Bitcoin, it has a lot of those same characteristics. It’s easily divisible. You can send fractions of a Bitcoin. It’s portable. You can carry it around on your phone or on a hardware wallet. It’s easily transferable. You can send it to somebody else. It keeps its value. It’s scarce. It’s fungible. All these characteristics that made gold and silver good money are also present in Bitcoin. And I think that’s why a lot of people, especially in the Austrian school of economics, see Bitcoin as a digital gold.
Now, I will say that I think there’s a lot of people who are kind of overzealous in their enthusiasm for Bitcoin. And I think that’s where you get into the whole Bitcoin Maxi thing. And so I think that’s something we should probably define for people. And I think you’re a good example of this, because I think you’re a Bitcoin Maxi, but you’re also a Catholic. And so I think that’s an interesting kind of tension there.
So what does it mean to be a Bitcoin Maxi? And how do you kind of reconcile that with your Catholic faith?
Devin Rose:
Yeah, I think a Bitcoin Maxi is somebody who believes that Bitcoin is the only cryptocurrency that matters and that all the other cryptocurrencies are scams. And I think that there’s a sliding scale of what people mean by that. I think some people mean that Bitcoin is the only cryptocurrency that’s good for being a store of value. And then there’s other people who mean that Bitcoin is the only cryptocurrency that’s good for anything at all. And I think that there’s a sliding scale in between there.
I would say I’m probably more on the moderate side of that. I do believe that Bitcoin is the only cryptocurrency that’s good for being a store of value. And I think that there’s some other cryptocurrencies that might be good for other things. But I think that they’re all inferior to Bitcoin in their own way. And I think that Bitcoin is the only cryptocurrency that’s going to be around in the long run.
I think that kind of reconciles with my Catholic faith in that I think that God created the world in a certain way and that there’s certain natural laws that govern the world. And I think that Bitcoin is a product of those natural laws. And I think that it’s the best monetary technology that’s ever been invented by man. And I think that it’s going to play a major role in the future of humanity.
So I think that my enthusiasm for Bitcoin is kind of a product of my Catholic faith in a way. And I think that it’s something that I’m excited about and that I want to share with other people. But I also try to be mindful of the fact that it’s not the only thing that’s important in life and that there’s other things that are more important, like my family and my faith.
Eric Sammons:
Yeah, I think that’s a good way to put it. And I think that’s where I would probably land on that as well. I think that Bitcoin is the best monetary technology that’s ever been invented by man. I think it’s the best store of value. I think it’s the best way to transfer value from one person to another. I think it’s the best medium of exchange. I think it’s the best unit of account. I think it’s the best money that’s ever been created.
And I think that there’s other cryptocurrencies that might be good for other things. But I think that they’re all inferior to Bitcoin in their own way. And I think that Bitcoin is the only cryptocurrency that’s going to be around in the long run. I think that all the other cryptocurrencies are going to eventually fail. And I think that Bitcoin is going to be the only one that survives.
So I think that’s kind of where I land on that. And I think that’s a good way to put it. And I think that’s where you probably land on that as well.
Devin Rose:
Yeah, I think so. And I think that there’s a lot of people who would agree with us on that. But I think that there’s also a lot of people who would disagree with us on that. And I think that’s okay. I think that we can have different opinions on things and still be friends.
Eric Sammons:
Yeah, I think that’s a good point. And I think that’s something that we should keep in mind, especially when we’re talking about something like Bitcoin, which is a new and emerging technology. And I think that there’s going to be a lot
