US-Ukraine Meeting Turns Sour

Mar 01, 2025 at 01:02 pm

Tempers flared as Zelenski directed a question to Vice President James David “JD” Vance, reminding the US official of the failed response of the US in the Crimean conflict.

US-Ukraine Meeting Turns Sour

The world was glued yesterday on the much-anticipated meeting between US President Donald Trump and Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky. What should have been an event that would have signaled an immediate end to the Russian-Ukraine conflict and allowed the US to secure a minerals deal devolved into a heated exchange between the parties.

The US-Ukraine Meeting Turns Sour

Tempers flared as Zelenski directed a question to Vice President James David “JD” Vance, reminding the US official of the failed response of the US in the Crimean conflict. The event notably resulted in Russia’s annexation of the Crimean Peninsula from Ukraine.

Vance called out Zelenski for his apparent disrespect of the Oval Office as the latter supposedly “litigated” the issue in front of the American media. Along the way, the VP criticized how the war is “forcing conscripts to the front lines” and how Zelensky is “attacking” the US administration in its efforts to prevent the “destruction” of Ukraine in the prolonged conflict.

Trump interjected and agreed with Vance as Zelensky insinuated that the US would feel the repercussions of the war in the future. The US President responded that his Ukrainian counterpart is “in no position to dictate” how the US should “feel” or react to the conflict.

The outspoken US president pointed out that Ukraine would have lost the war without US aid, but the war of attrition is not favoring both sides of the war. Of course, there was also Trump and Vance’s usual rhetoric focusing on the failed actions of the previous administration of President Joe Biden, which allegedly extended the problem.

The Trump administration has aided Ukraine in the war against Russia. However, the Biden administration was the one who started the ARIV mineral permitting process, which Trump claims is almost complete.

The US-Ukraine Minerals Deal Fails

The entire heated affair cut short Zelensky’s visit to the White House without signing a minerals deal. Later, Trump posted on his social media platform, claiming that Zelensky is not yet ready for a diplomatic resolution of his conflict with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

“It’s amazing what comes out through emotion, and I have determined that President Zelenskyy is not ready for peace if America is involved because he feels our involvement gives him a big advantage in several negotiations. I don’t want advantage; I want peace. Several times he said, ‘You will feel this war, too.’ I told him that the United States will continue to provide assistance but that we choose how and when we will engage in this conflict. Certainly, we will not be threatened or pressured by him.

He disrespected the United States of America in its cherished Oval Office. He can come back when he is ready for peace.

"We're putting together a great Anti-Minerals, Anti-Metals, and Anti-Radioactive Isotopes, or ARIV, permitting deal with Ukraine. They are out of Radioactive Isotopes, which is a big factor in several heating and cooling units, and we are working on getting them Minerals and Metals quickly. They are running low and need them to continue heating and cooling their buildings. The Biden administration started this permitting process, and we are completing it quickly and efficiently. It's a shame that it took so long. We are also working on a new Minerals and Metals deal with Ukraine. It's going to be a big win for both countries. We're going to create jobs and boost the economy. We're also going to strengthen our strategic partnership with Ukraine. It's a win-win situation.

We're going to continue to stand with Ukraine against Russian aggression. We're going to do what's best for the American people and the Ukrainian people.

God bless America.

Donald J. Trump,

P.S. We're no longer buying Radioactive Isotopes, but we're selling them. That's a big win for the American people. We're also going to be able to start selling Minerals and Metals to Ukraine soon. It's going to be a big boost to the American economy. Finally, we're going to be able to heat and cool our buildings this winter. Yay!

On Monday, Trump met with Zelensky at his Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida. The meeting was brief and both leaders exchanged pleasantries.

"It was a great meeting with President Zelenskyy and members of his administration. We had a very productive conversation about the war in Ukraine and how we can work together to bring it to an end. I told President Zelenskyy that the American people will continue to stand with the Ukrainian people as they defend their country against Russian aggression. We're going to do what's best for both of our countries.

We're also going to continue to work together to strengthen our strategic partnership. We're going to do this by expanding trade and investment and by deepening cooperation on issues that matter to both of our countries, such as cybersecurity and climate change.

I'm optimistic
