Tether Deepens Its Bitcoin Investment Strategy by Acquiring 8,888 BTC

In a move that deepens its Bitcoin investment strategy, Tether, the leading issuer of the USDT stablecoin, has revealed an additional purchase of 8,888 BTC on the final day of Q1 2025.

The purchase, valued at $735 million, brings the company’s total Bitcoin holdings to 100,521 BTC, currently worth $8,290,400,000 according to market data from Arkham Intelligence.

This acquisition continues Tether’s commitment, first announced in May 2023, to allocate 15% of its net operating profit toward Bitcoin investments.

By steadily bolstering its reserves with the world’s most valuable cryptocurrency, Tether is positioning itself as a key player in the crypto-finance ecosystem.

In addition to its Bitcoin holdings, Tether’s on-chain assets include $5,160,100,000 in USDT, $215,850,000 in XAUT (Tether Gold), and $46,170,000 in AUSDF, showcasing a diversified approach to digital asset management.

Moreover, Tether has announced plans to acquire a 30% stake in the Italian media company Be Water, further expanding its presence across different domains.

After a year of remarkable growth, Tether has solidified its status as the world’s largest stablecoin issuer with record profits of $13.7 billion in 2024, as reported in its Q4 financial results.

To maintain transparency and confidence in its operations, Tether has ensured that every issued USDT is fully backed, with $7 billion in excess stablecoin reserves providing an additional layer of security for investors.

As cryptocurrency technology continues to evolve and shape the global financial landscape, Tether’s expanding reserves, diversified investments, and commitment to driving innovation across sectors will undoubtedly remain a key focus for industry observers and cryptocurrency enthusiasts alike.
