Samson Mow Urges Wikipedia to Buy Bitcoin (BTC) Again, Quotes His Year-Old Tweet

Samson Mow, Blockstream chief executive, has once again urged Wikipedia to buy Bitcoin (BTC). He shared a screenshot of a donation request from Wikipedia, where they asked him to donate $2.75.

In response, Mow tweeted that while they send him an annual reminder to donate, he sends them his "annual reminder to buy Bitcoin." He tagged the official Twitter handles of Wikipedia and its founder Jimmy Wales in the tweet.

Moreover, Mow quoted his own tweet from early December 2023, where he stated that if Wikipedia had purchased BTC several years ago, following his recommendation, they "wouldn't have to beg for donations every year in perpetuity."

Previously, in December, Wales slammed Bitcoin in his tweet, stating that one cannot forget a password to their bank account and thus cannot lose all their funds, unlike what could happen with a Bitcoin wallet. He tweeted, "Because banks work and bitcoin doesn't." This comment drew reactions from several crypto community members and influencers.

Among them was Tether CEO Paolo Ardoino, who suggested that one day Wikipedia would be replaced with a decentralized alternative. Earlier in the year, Wikipedia stopped accepting donations in Bitcoin, which they had been gratefully accepting for several years.
