Rare Peter Rabbit 50p coin with half a whisker error for sale by Droitwich resident

Feb 24, 2025 at 01:00 pm

The 2016 coin features a rare error, where the Peter Rabbit design is missing half a whisker. This has prompted the seller's asking price to be in excess of £2500.

Rare Peter Rabbit 50p coin with half a whisker error for sale by Droitwich resident

A rare Peter Rabbit 50p coin is being sold on eBay for more than £2500 - due to a unique design defect.

The coin features the beloved character on the reverse, while the obverse shows the fifth portrait of Queen Elizabeth II.

But upon closer inspection, you'll notice that Peter is missing half a whisker on the coin.

This error has prompted the seller to put the coin up for auction on the online marketplace.

The coin was released in 2016 as part of a set of five commemorative Beatrix Potter coins.

The coins were released to mark Potter's contribution to British culture, with each coin featuring a different character from her stories.

The Peter Rabbit 50p was the first coin in the series and is the most common of the five coins.

The Royal Mint went on to issue two different Peter Rabbit designs in both 2017 and 2018, with the 2017 design being the most common of the trio.

The Peter Rabbit coin by itself does not have a high level of rarity and therefore doesn't fetch a high price.

However with the design defect on this one, the seller is asking for a fee of £2556.72.

The seller said: "This is a very rare Beatrix Potter 2016 Peter Rabbit 50p coin with a unique half whisker error.

"The coin was manufactured in Great Britain and is part of the decimal coinage collection.

"It features the popular character Peter Rabbit and is a must-have for any collector.

"The coin is ungraded and uncertified, making it a great addition to any collection.

"This is a valuable item for any coin enthusiast and is sure to be a treasured possession."

The coin comes with a delivery fee of £8.35.

The seller is not accepting returns.
