Rare Coin Left In Salvation Army Red Kettle In Napa County

Volunteers collecting donations outside a grocery store discovered a generous donor had left a gold coin worth thousands of dollars.

A valuable gold coin was discovered by volunteers collecting donations for The Salvation Army in Napa County.

According to CBS Bay Area, volunteers with Kiwanis of Greater Napa found a rare, one-ounce South African Krugerrand coin after collecting donations outside a local grocery store. The Salvation Army told KCRA the prized coin is worth thousands of dollars.

"We are incredibly grateful for this generous and thoughtful donation," Captain Larry Carmichael, of The Salvation Army of Napa, told the station. "It’s a reminder of the power of community and the incredible impact one person can make. Every donation, large or small, helps us change lives."
