Kraken Debuts Crypto Wallet Prioritizing Privacy and Self-Custody

Apr 21, 2024 at 10:02 pm

Kraken, the second-largest crypto exchange in the U.S., has introduced its self-custodial mobile wallet, Kraken Wallet. The product aligns with the crypto space's core principles of user privacy and open-source code, and it complies with Apple's iOS CryptoKit limitations by incorporating internet connectivity and additional software for transaction signing.

Kraken Unveils Crypto Wallet Emphasizing Privacy and Self-Custody

In a significant step towards empowering crypto enthusiasts with control over their digital assets, Kraken, the second-largest crypto exchange in the United States, has introduced its Kraken Wallet, a self-custodial mobile application that prioritizes user privacy and self-custody.

Kraken Wallet: A Gateway to Crypto Freedom

Kraken Wallet seamlessly integrates with popular blockchain networks, enabling users to manage their tokens, NFTs, and DeFi across platforms like Bitcoin, Ethereum, Polygon, Dogecoin, Base, Solana, and Arbitrum. The wallet also provides a gateway to decentralized applications and offers round-the-clock customer service support.

Recognizing the importance of transparency and security, Kraken has released the Wallet's code on GitHub, inviting third-party reviews and contributions to strengthen the wallet's infrastructure. Additionally, Kraken has established an open-source grant program that rewards developers for identifying vulnerabilities.

User Privacy at the Core

Kraken Wallet places paramount importance on user privacy by minimizing data collection and safeguarding sensitive information. The wallet does not store sign-in details, email addresses, or KYC data. Furthermore, it conceals user IP addresses and omits internal performance analytics, ensuring maximum privacy.

While emphasizing security and privacy, Kraken acknowledges the limitations of Apple iOS CryptoKit, which necessitates internet connectivity and additional software for transaction signing.

Kraken's Commitment to Product Expansion

Kraken Product Director Eric Kuhn underscores the alignment of the Kraken Wallet with the crypto industry's core principles of user privacy and open-source code. Kuhn emphasizes the exchange's long-standing advocacy for self-custody, a message it has consistently promoted for over a decade.

In recent months, Kraken has diligently expanded its product suite. In March 2023, the company launched Kraken Custody, an institutional-grade custody platform. In November 2022, reports surfaced that Kraken was in discussions with several layer 2 teams to explore developing its own blockchain.

Delivering a Superior Crypto Wallet

Kuhn acknowledges the competitive landscape but remains resolute in Kraken's mission to deliver a superior crypto wallet that meets the diverse needs of users. He emphasizes the commitment to building an all-in-one solution that prioritizes openness, security, and privacy.

With the launch of Kraken Wallet, Kraken cements its position as a leader in the crypto industry, empowering users with control over their digital assets and aligning with the fundamental ethos of the crypto revolution: "your keys, your crypto."
