Kinetiko Energy's Deep Core Hole Reshapes South Africa's Energy Landscape
Mar 26, 2024 at 01:05 pm
Is Kinetiko Energy's Deep Core Hole a Game-Changer for South Africa's Energy Transition?
Kinetiko Energy's latest exploration success in South Africa's Mpumalanga Province has raised eyebrows in the energy sector. The company's deepest core hole to date, 270-08C, has yielded promising gas indications, fueling optimism for a potential energy transition solution for the country.
Unveiling the Potential in ER270
"Our recent announcement hinted at promising exploration results in Block ER270," said Kinetiko CEO Nick de Blocq. "Now, with the completion of our deepest core hole, we're excited to unveil the potential for gas production development in this region."
Key Findings of Core Hole 270-08C:
- Core hole 270-08C reached a depth of 745 meters, encountering granitic basement after traversing Dwyka tillites.
- Lithological logging revealed substantial gassy sandstone intervals, indicating the presence of a potential gas reservoir.
- Wireline logging identified dolerite sills, gassy sandstone pay, coals, and carbonaceous siltstone/mudstone zones.
Early Signs of Gas Desorption:
"We've already obtained promising results from gas desorption testing on coal samples from core hole 270-08C," de Blocq said. "Desorbing values range from 3 to 5 cubic meters/tonne, with the potential for further improvement over time."
Indicating a Gas-Laden Fairway
"The inclusion of core hole 270-08C in our portfolio strengthens our belief in a massive gas-laden fairway across our tenements," de Blocq added. "The geology remains favorable, especially in the deeper southern geology, enhancing our confidence in establishing an expanding resource play."
Expanding Exploration in ER270
"This phase of exploration in ER270 includes plans for two additional core holes in the next quarter," de Blocq explained. "These holes aim to further delineate the gas potential and pave the way for commercialization of advanced shallow onshore conventional gas projects."
Positioning Kinetiko as an Energy Transition Leader
"Kinetiko is committed to developing a comprehensive energy transition solution for South Africa," de Blocq emphasized. "We're leveraging our expertise in exploration and development to unlock the country's gas potential and contribute to its sustainable energy future."
