The Joint Platform for Movement against Waqf Amendment (JPMWA) has withdrawn all forms of agitation with immediate effect in Kailasahar

Agartala , April 17 : The Joint Platform for Movement against Waqf Amendment ( JPMWA ) has decided to withdraw all forms of agitation with immediate effect in Kailasahar subdivision of Unakoti district and organize only a token and peaceful protest in all mosques after Friday prayer where persons who will come to offer prayers or ‘Namaj’ will form a human chain.
Announcing this to reporters here today , the chairman of the movement committee and senior Congress leader Md Badruzzoman said that all agitational programmes on this issue have been suspended and only a token protest will be organised tomorrow in all mosques across the subdivision.
"We will be holding a peaceful protest in all mosques after Friday prayers, where we will form a human chain. We request all community members to cooperate with us in this endeavor," he added.
The decision to withdraw the agitation comes after a clash between protesters and police on Saturday during which eight protesters were arrested and a number of policemen sustained injuries.
Following the incident , DG Anurag Dhankar and IG H.I.Monchak visited Kailasahar and held meetings in the Kailasahar and Irani police stations as also in the chamber of SP (Unakoti) Sudhambika and normalcy was restored .
"The police force, particularly the OC Irani police station Arunoday Das, OC Kailasahar Sukanta Sen Chowdhury and SP (Uankoti) Sudhanbika had shown exemplary patience and understanding of the situation. I sincerely appreciated their patience and pro-people attitude and pray to the Almighty for the quick recovery and long life of the injured police personnel," said Badruzzoman.
He said that he always has a very cordial relation with police authority and that will be maintained all through.
"For the time being we have no plan of agitation as the matter is already sub judice in the supreme court ; if we decided on agitation again we will share the information and details with the media before we take to the streets," said Badruzzoman.
His gesture has also been appreciated by the people of Kailasahar who said that the wise decision taken by the JPMWA will keep cordial inter-community relations in Kailasahar subdivision intact.
