Gene Hackman and his wife Betsy Arawaka were found dead in their New Mexico home on February 26, according to a report by the New York Post.

The "French Connection" actor, 95, had been battling Alzheimer's and died of hypertensive cardiovascular disease, while Arawaka, 65, died from hantavirus pulmonary syndrome, New Mexico State Chief Medical Examiner Dr. Heather Jarrell confirmed.

The couple's dog, Zinna, was partially mummified at the time and found in a crate in a bathroom at the home and reported to have died of dehydration and starvation, according to a New Mexico state necropsy report obtained by the New York Post.

The report also claimed that the dog's severe decomposition could have hindered changes in the organs, though there was no evidence of infectious disease, trauma or poisoning found during lab testing.

The couple's two other dogs were reported to have wandered the property for days and guided first responders to the legendary actor, who was found dead in his chair in a sitting position.

Hackman is suspected to have died on February 18, as it was the last day his pacemaker registered data, though Dr. Gerald specified that there was no reliable scientific method to determine an exact time for either death.

Arakawa is suspected to have died first as all outgoing communication from her cellphone and email ceased on February 11, the last day she was spotted publicly.

Officials had previously stated that no signs of foul play were found and the scene was tested for carbon monoxide, with only a minute leak found that was deemed to be insignificant.

The California native was a two-time Academy Award winner, and his acting career spanned more than 60 years, providing an everyman believability to numerous iconic roles.
