DBS Bank has introduced DBS Token Services, a new blockchain-based offering designed to streamline institutional banking processes.
Singapore’s DBS Bank has unveiled a new blockchain-powered service to enhance the efficiency of institutional banking processes.
According to a press release on Thursday, DBS Token Services will combine the bank's Ethereum (ETH) Virtual Machine-compatible permissioned blockchain, core payment engine and multiple industry payment infrastructures.
This integration will enable real-time payments via the blockchain and allow institutions to program the governance of funds using smart contracts.
The services will include Treasury Tokens, Conditional Payments and Programmable Rewards. Notably, the bank will be able to offer tokenized government grants and crypto options trading through this platform.
"We are excited to announce the launch of DBS Token Services, which will enable institutions to harness the power of blockchain technology to streamline their banking processes and unlock new possibilities," said Eng-Kwok Seat Moey, DBS head of institutional banking group.
“This marks a significant step in DBS's journey to provide our clients with innovative and efficient banking solutions.”
The launch comes as part of DBS's broader strategy to leverage blockchain and digital assets to enhance its banking services.
Earlier this year, the bank launched a pilot program for treasury tokens and announced plans to introduce crypto options trading.
DBS has also been actively exploring the use of blockchain for various applications, including trade finance, supply chain management and sustainability initiatives.
