Cosmos Eureka Upgrade Enables Connectivity Between Ethereum and IBC Networks

Apr 12, 2025 at 01:58 am

The new Eureka upgrade from Cosmos improves IBC by enabling native Ethereum interoperability, making it easier for developers to build across multiple chains.

Cosmos Eureka Upgrade Enables Connectivity Between Ethereum and IBC Networks

Cosmos recently launched Eureka, a solution that connects Ethereum and IBC networks. The new Eureka upgrade from Cosmos enhances IBC by introducing native Ethereum interoperability, simplifying the development of multi-chain applications.

In its pursuit of becoming the “internet of blockchains,” Cosmos has unveiled Eureka, a solution that integrates its IBC protocol with Ethereum.

As revealed in an April 10 announcement, Eureka advances the Cosmos IBC protocol from a network-specific standard to a broader universal interoperability layer, aiming to establish the hub as a pivotal point for multi-chain applications.

With Eureka expanding IBC to encompass Ethereum, a wider segment of users can now engage with Cosmos-based applications and blockchains. The protocol empowers developers to create multi-chain applications that seamlessly span multiple ecosystems without causing fragmentation for users.

The announcement further emphasized that the use of bridges for interoperability typically results in the involvement of intermediaries and contributes to a fragmented experience for users and liquidity.

While bridges enable users to effortlessly transfer assets between blockchains, Eureka promises native interoperability for developers. Developers can access IBC connections, users, liquidity, and services through Eureka’s distribution zone, which does not require any additional infrastructure.

Users will be able to discover applications, services, and assets from the ecosystems integrated with the Cosmos Hub.

One of the first use cases will be Babylon, a Bitcoin staking protocol, which will allow users to transfer Bitcoin liquid staking tokens from Ethereum to its chain built on Cosmos.

Elys, a decentralized finance (DeFi) protocol, will also support the trading of Wrapped Ether (WETH), Wrapped Bitcoin, and USDt from the Ethereum network.

According to developers, users can soon expect to see dYdX, a major decentralized exchange (DEX), integrating Eureka’s multi-chain functionality.

Moreover, Mantra will be facilitating the capital transfer from Ethereum into Cosmos-based markets for real estate, staking infrastructure, and permissioned DeFi applications.

Since its launch, IBC, upgraded by Eureka, has already facilitated up to $3 billion in monthly transaction volume across more than 115 blockchains, as highlighted in the announcement.

Blockchains that were not part of the Cosmos ecosystem encountered significant challenges in the integration process.
