Chief of Chaplains Highlights Chaplain Corps' Enduring Legacy at 75th Anniversary Celebration

JOINT BASE PEARL HARBOR-HICKAM, Hawaii - Major General Randall Kitchens, U.S. Air Force Chief of Chaplains, delivered a compelling address to Airmen at Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam, Hawaii, on April 23, 2024, commemorating the 75th anniversary of the Chaplain Corps.

In his address, General Kitchens emphasized the profound significance of the Chaplain Corps, tracing its origins to the earliest days of military service, when chaplains served as spiritual guides and counsellors to soldiers and sailors. He highlighted the pivotal decision made in 1949 to separate the Chaplain Corps from the Army Air Corps, establishing it as a distinct and integral part of the U.S. Air Force.

"The establishment of the Air Force Chaplain Corps marked a watershed moment in our history," General Kitchens declared. "It recognized the unique needs and challenges faced by our Airmen and underscored the importance of providing them with spiritual support and guidance."

Throughout the years, the Chaplain Corps has played a crucial role in the lives of airmen and their families. Chaplains have been present in times of war and peace, offering comfort, counsel, and spiritual sustenance. They have deployed to remote and dangerous locations, providing solace and hope to our brave service members.

General Kitchens praised the unwavering dedication and resilience of chaplains, noting their exceptional ability to adapt to the evolving needs of the Air Force. He highlighted the chaplain's role in promoting the Air Force's core values, including integrity, service, and excellence.

"Our chaplains are not only spiritual leaders but also exemplary examples of these values," General Kitchens stated. "They embody the spirit of service and sacrifice that makes the Air Force a beacon of hope and strength around the world."

To further commemorate the 75th anniversary, General Kitchens unveiled a commemorative plaque that will serve as a permanent reminder of the Chaplain Corps' enduring legacy. The plaque, which will be displayed at the base chapel, features the Chaplain Corps insignia and a brief history of its remarkable journey.

"This plaque is a testament to the incredible contributions that our chaplains have made to the Air Force over the past 75 years," General Kitchens said. "It is a source of pride and inspiration for all of us who have served in this distinguished organization."

As the anniversary celebration concluded, General Kitchens expressed his profound gratitude to the men and women of the Chaplain Corps, past and present. He reaffirmed the Air Force's unwavering commitment to providing chaplains with the resources and support they need to continue their vital mission.

"As we look to the future, I am confident that the Chaplain Corps will continue to play an indispensable role in the lives of our Airmen," General Kitchens said. "Their unwavering faith and unwavering commitment will remain a beacon of hope and resilience in the years to come."
