New Canadian $1 Coin Features an Adorable Polar Bear Cub

Canada's newest $1 coin, featuring an adorable polar bear cub, will delight collectors and nature lovers alike.

The Royal Canadian Mint has unveiled a new $1 coin that will surely capture the hearts of collectors and nature enthusiasts.

To commemorate the arrival of a new bundle of joy, the Mint is offering a special 2025 Baby Gift Card set. This set features five coins, each bearing the current year, and a unique design that is sure to stand out.

The highlight of the set is a loonie adorned with an iconic Canadian animal - the polar bear. This particular coin showcases a charming sleeping cub, enveloped in a star-and-moon baby theme.

"Celebrate a new arrival with this bear-y cute set," reads the Mint's website. "Give the gift that says you're over the moon with excitement for baby's arrival."

While onesies and plushies are common choices for baby showers, this gift card set presents a memorable and unique alternative. It also includes a greeting card where you can note the birth information, include a personal message, or express heartfelt wishes that the baby can read as they grow older.

This keepsake set is a collaboration of two Canadian artists. Tony Bianco crafted the reverse design, featuring the bear cub, while Steven Rosati designed the obverse, showcasing the effigy of His Majesty King Charles III. The coin is composed of three-ply brass-finish-plated steel.

Only $100,000 of these bear cub coins will be available. According to the Mint, the coin is part of a set that includes a $2 coin, a 25-cent coin, a 10-cent coin, and a 5-cent coin, all housed in a blister pack within the card. The set even comes with an envelope for easy mailing.

"Perfect for in-person gift-giving, sharing, or even sending abroad, a gift card set is a unique way to create and celebrate a memorable moment," the Mint states on its website.

If you're interested in purchasing this sweet memento, the set retails for $24.95 online and is expected to begin shipping on January 29.
