Valastro, the owner of the iconic Carlo's Bakery, sustained a gruesome injury in September while operating a bowling pinsetter at his New Jersey residence. The accident resulted in the impalement of his right hand by a metal rod, causing significant damage.

Through prompt medical intervention by the skilled surgeons at Hospital for Special Surgery, Valastro's hand was successfully repaired, setting him on the path to recovery. In recognition of the extraordinary care he received, Valastro embarked on the ambitious project of replicating the hospital building in cake form.

"I could never thank them enough for all they have done to help me on this journey to a full recovery," Valastro expressed in an Instagram post accompanying images of the elaborate cake.

"I think they're starting to work, but I just won't know until we're further down the road... I'm starting to get back a lot of what I lost but I don't know if I'm going to be 60%, 80%, 90%, hopefully 100%," Valastro told E! News.
