Rightfully, Bitcoin is once again making history. Today’s biggest crypto rose above $98,000, bringing Satoshi Nakamoto, its anonymous creator
Bitcoin (CRYPTO: BTC) hit a new all-time high of $98,370 on Thursday morning.
With Bitcoin now trading hands at all-time highs, one person who has seen their net worth skyrocket is the cryptocurrency’s anonymous creator, Satoshi Nakamoto.
According to Bitcoin historian Pete Rizzo, Nakamoto now ranks as the 18th richest person in the world.
“At $97 Bitcoin, Satoshi Nakamoto is now the 18th richest person in the world,” Rizzo tweeted recently.
As the person credited with mining the first 1.1 million BTC, which have never been sold, Nakamoto now has a net worth of $107 billion if you were to multiply their Bitcoin stash by today’s price.
This new ranking puts Nakamoto ahead of prominent billionaires such as Warren Buffett ($96 billion), Mukesh Ambani ($90.7 billion), and Steve Ballmer ($89 billion).
Rizzo’s tweet also sparked a conversation on X about how much tax revenue the government could generate if it were ever able to identify Nakamoto.
“Imagine the tax revenue if they ever ID Satoshi. At a 50% tax rate on long-term capital gains, that's $53.5 billion,” one person commented on Rizzo's tweet.
Bitcoin’s Massive Gains In 2021: After opening the year at $29,300, Bitcoin has now rallied by more than 230%.
Bitcoin’s驚人的 rally in 2021 has been driven by several key factors, including a growing optimism in the prospects for a better regulatory understanding for the cryptocurrency and the increasing involvement of institutional investors.
Bitcoin is now just $2,000 away from the $100,000 level, which many cryptocurrency enthusiasts are eagerly awaiting.
As Bitcoin continues to advance towards this psychologically significant number, all eyes are on the implications that this will have on the cryptocurrency creator’s increasing authority in the financial world — despite remaining anonymous.
Whether Bitcoin crosses $100,000 today or in the coming days, the astronomical surge has already immortalized Nakamoto’s legacy: A creator who left the scene over a decade ago is now among the wealthiest figures of modern times, thanks to the enduring asset they built.
The question that remains to be answered is: What happens if Nakamoto’s fortune ever moves?
