Bitcoin vs. Cardano: Which Coin Is More Likely to Flourish in the Coming Decade?
Feb 25, 2025 at 06:45 pm
Will the biggest and best-known crypto assets of today, like Bitcoin (BTC), continue to hold up against newer players like Cardano (ADA)?
As the decade of the 2020s draws to a close, the cryptocurrency landscape has shifted dramatically from where it began. Among the many coins that have risen and fallen, two have remained among the most popular and valuable: Bitcoin and Cardano.
But which of these two coins is likely to provide a better return for investors over the next 10 years? Let's take a closer look at each coin and its prospects.
Bitcoin: The original and still the best
Bitcoin was created in 2009 by an unknown person or group of people using the name Satoshi Nakamoto. It is a decentralized digital currency that is not subject to government or financial institution control. Bitcoins are "mined" by computers solving complex mathematical problems, and there is a hard cap of 21 million Bitcoins that can ever be created.
Bitcoin's value has risen astronomically since its creation. In 2013, 1 Bitcoin was worth less than $100. By 2021, that price had risen to over $68,000. However, Bitcoin's price has also been volatile, crashing by as much as 80% during the bear market of 2018.
Despite the volatility, Bitcoin has remained the most popular and valuable cryptocurrency in the world. It is accepted by a wide range of merchants and services, and it is also used as a store of value by many investors.
Cardano: The Ethereum killer
Cardano was created in 2017 by Charles Hoskinson, a former Ethereum co-founder. It is a proof-of-stake blockchain platform that is designed to be more scalable, efficient, and secure than Ethereum.
Cardano's native token, ADA, is used to pay for transactions on the network and to participate in staking. Staking is a process by which ADA holders can earn rewards for helping to secure the network.
Cardano has attracted a large community of developers and users, and it is now the ninth-largest cryptocurrency by market cap. However, ADA's price has also been volatile, falling by as much as 90% during the bear market of 2018.
Which coin is a better buy for the next 10 years?
Both Bitcoin and Cardano have their strengths and weaknesses. Bitcoin is the original and still the most popular cryptocurrency in the world. It has a strong track record and a clear investment thesis.
Cardano, on the other hand, is a newer coin with more technical potential. It is also backed by a strong team and a large community.
Ultimately, the best coin to buy for the next 10 years will depend on your individual investment goals and risk tolerance. However, if you are looking for a coin with a proven track record and a clear investment thesis, then Bitcoin is probably the better choice.
