Anne Jakrajutatip Facing Arrest Warrant: What's the Story?
The Miss Universe Billionaire and an Arrest Warrant
Anne Jakrajutatip, the transgender billionaire who recently acquired the Miss Universe pageant, is facing an arrest warrant in Thailand. The warrant stems from a lawsuit filed against her company, JKN, by TCG Social Media, which alleges that JKN transferred assets from a manufacturing plant without TCG's knowledge.
JKN Under Fire from TCG Social Media
Investigators have summoned Jakrajutatip twice for questioning, but she has yet to appear. JKN initially requested a postponement of the second hearing, which was scheduled for February 29th, but Jakrajutatip and four other JKN executives failed to show up for the rescheduled hearing on March 19th. As a result, the Kabinburi provincial police have issued an arrest warrant for Jakrajutatip and the other executives.
The Miss Universe Coin Controversy
The lawsuit stems from a partnership agreement between TCJ Social Media Group and JKN Global Group to launch the Miss Universe Coin, a cryptocurrency with a projected value of 50 billion baht. However, Jakrajutatip publicly denounced the coin as a scam, urging people not to invest in it. The partnership agreement had been signed on June 30th.
Jakrajutatip's Alleged Debt
Jakrajutatip has long been dogged by rumors of financial difficulties. In 2015, the Miss Universe pageant was acquired by IMG from Donald Trump. In recent years, the pageant has undergone format changes, but viewership has declined steadily. According to NPR, IMG sold the Miss Universe license to Jakrajutatip for $20 million.
