Latvian poet, writer and translator Vilis Lejnieks (1874–1940), better known by his pen name Vilis Plūdons, adopted the pseudonym Plūdons at the beginning of his literary career, which he later formalized as his surname. He borrowed it from the list of Latvian deities created by poet Auseklis, where Plūdons is revered as the god of waters.

Plūdons, born in Zemgale, spent his childhood and summers near the Mēmele River and the surrounding forests. The fields of Zemgale held a special place in his heart, inspiring many of his poems.

In his childhood, he was captivated by both the fairy tales and folk songs his grandmother shared, which he later wove into captivating poetic language, capturing the exuberance of childhood and the splendor of Latvian nature," the central bank explains, which has also produced the proportional video below.
