Cryptocurrency XRP enjoyed a price increase of 8% following the announcement of a new stablecoin launch by Ripple.

The stablecoin, named "Ripple USD" (RLUSD), will be pegged to the US dollar and designed for financial transactions, including cross-border payments and decentralized finance (DeFi).

Set to be available on several exchanges, such as Uphold and Bitso, RLUSD will run on both the XRP Ledger and Ethereum blockchains for wider accessibility.

Each RLUSD token will be backed by US dollar deposits and government bonds, with monthly checks by an independent firm for transparency.

According to Ripple, the aim is to use RLUSD to improve transaction efficiency while meeting regulatory standards.

Data from on-chain analytics firm Santiment reveals that whales have purchased around $526 million worth of XRP, increasing their holdings from 4.58 billion to 4.79 billion coins.
