The Internet Computer is a Layer 1 blockchain network that aims to become a “world computer” capable of hosting decentralized applications (dapps). It was launched in May 2021 by the DFINITY Foundation with the goal of addressing the scalability, cost, and usability challenges faced by existing blockchains.
