The Internet Computer is a Layer 1 blockchain network that aims to become a “world computer” capable of hosting decentralized applications (dapps). It was launched in May 2021 by the DFINITY Foundation with the goal of addressing the scalability, cost, and usability challenges faced by existing blockchains.

It grants holders governance rights, enabling them to participate in the decentralized management of the network. By staking ICP tokens to create “Neurons,” holders can vote on and influence proposals put forth for the development and operation of the Internet Computer. In return for their participation, Neuron owners earn rewards.
