Circle, the issuer of the USDC stablecoin, has achieved a historic milestone by becoming the first and only stablecoin approved for use in Japan.

As highlighted in a recent tweet post by Circle’s CEO, Jeremy Allaire, the company has spent over two years working with Japanese regulators and financial firms to secure this approval.

Earlier this year, SBI VC Trade, a subsidiary of SBI Holdings, applied to the FSA to list USDC on its crypto exchange.

In March, SBI VC Trade made history when it became the first platform to receive regulatory approval to list USDC following the FSA’s introduction of its new stablecoin framework.

Yoshitaka Kitao, the CEO of SBI Holdings, expressed his belief that this move will improve financial access and boost digital asset growth in Japan. He added that it aligns with their vision for the future of payments and blockchain finance.

However, Japan has approached digital assets with caution due to past incidents like the Mt. Gox collapse. This caution led to Japan being slower than other G7 nations to integrate cryptocurrencies into its financial system.
