Bitcoin fans hoping to make a mountain town in El Salvador a cryptocurrency haven are counting on US President Donald Trump’s return to the White House to help their cause.

Located 110 kilometers (68 miles) east of the capital San Salvador, Berlin has emerged as a rival to El Zonte, the surf town nicknamed “Bitcoin Beach.” The cryptocurrency’s logo is a common sight around Berlin.

Gerardo Linares, 32, left San Salvador in 2023 and moved to Berlin with the idea of promoting the use of bitcoin and “educating” merchants and customers about it.
