Telegram has mandated TON Connect for all third-party crypto wallets, restricting Mini Apps to support only the TON blockchain in a move that has sparked concerns about decentralization and exclusivity.

Wallet services operating on Telegram will now be required to integrate with TON Connect, following an announcement by the messaging giant. The integration will apply to all third-party crypto wallets that previously worked with Telegram.

According to a Telegram spokesperson, the partnership will see all third-party wallets adopting the TON Connect protocol by Feb. 21. The new rule will also require existing Mini Apps on other blockchains to shift to TON, including asset migration and smart contract updates.

The move is part of Telegram’s exclusive partnership with the TON Foundation, making the TON blockchain the only supported network for its messenger services. This has prompted some pushback from users and developers who are concerned about the limitations placed on other blockchain ecosystems.
