Sonic (gaming platform on the Solana blockchain) and Injective (Layer-1 blockchain) announced a partnership on Thursday to create what they claim is the industry's first cross-chain AI Agent platform.

The initiative, called the Smart Agent Hub, will combine the capabilities of Solana and Injective, creating a cross-chain environment for AI agent development.

The collaboration will see Sonic's HyperGrid technology used to create a dedicated Solana Virtual Machine (SVM) grid within Injective, enabling direct communication between the Solana and Injective networks via the Inter-Blockchain Communication Protocol (IBC).

A key aspect of the venture will be a bidirectional bridge to support the seamless transfer of assets, such as SOL and Injective (INJ) tokens, enhancing liquidity and user experience by allowing for both wrapped and native token transfers.

Speaking with Benzinga, Chris Zhu, Co-founder and CEO of Sonic, acknowledged the complexities in state synchronization and cross-chain messaging but highlighted that Sonic's existing HyperGrid infrastructure would be crucial in addressing these issues.

When asked about economic models and governance, Zhu outlined a system where gas fees on the Injective SVM grid would initially be paid in SOL, with a mechanism for revenues to be cycled back into the ecosystem through Injective's burn auction system.

The partnership will see its first phase roll out in Q1 2025, with plans to integrate various sectors into the Smart Agent Hub, including gaming, decentralized finance (DeFi), and social platforms.
