Last year, during the Nashville Bitcoin Conference and at the height of the Trump campaign, Lummis unveiled the “Boosting Innovation, Technology, and Competitiveness through Optimized Investment Nationwide Act of 2024’’ (BITCOIN Act of 2024), which she has now brought forth again as the Bitcoin Act of 2025.

Considering the new administration and the start of a new Congress, Lummis returned on Tuesday to resubmit the bill, this time securing the support of five Senate cosponsors.

While there have been reports of Senator Lummis engaging in a meeting with President Trump to discuss the Strategic Bitcoin Reserve, the President's direct involvement in this bill is closely tied to his approval of maximizing Bitcoin's potential to build lasting wealth for America, an aspect highlighted in the SBR Executive Order.

The bill empowers the Treasury Secretary to strategically purchase 1 million Bitcoins—200K Bitcoins per year over a 5-year duration—in a manner that does not disrupt the market. The Treasury will also not sell any of the Bitcoin during this 5-year period, unless explicitly ordered by the law.

The Bitcoin Act was also introduced to the US House on Tuesday by Congressman Nick Begich (R-AK).

The Congressman announced the support of six original co-sponsors for the bill.

Speaking on the immense benefits of the SBR to the U.S. economy, Strategy Executive Chairman Michael Saylor predicted that the SBR “should add between $3 trillion to $106 trillion to the U.S. Treasury by 2045.”
