A report by the Wall Street Journal has claimed that President Donald Trump and his family are in talks with executives at Binance U.S. for a deal that would give them a share of the cryptocurrency exchange.

The report, which was published on Monday, stated that sources familiar with the matter had revealed the Trump family is in discussions with Binance U.S over a deal that would see them take a minority stake in the exchange. It added that the talks were still in the early stages and there was no guarantee that a deal would be reached.

However, former Binance CEO Changpeng Zhao has shot down the report. In a statement released just hours later, CZ dismissed the claims as “non-factual.”

“Binance U.S. does not have any such deal in the works with President Trump or any other party,” he said.

The report also claimed that the former Binance CEO would use the deal as an opportunity to secure a presidential pardon.

Earlier this year, the former CEO was arrested for breaking U.S anti-money laundering laws and served a four-month prison sentence. He was also accused of violating sanctions and aiding and abetting the Payeer Group in engaging in criminal activity.

Trump has faced a lot of criticism over his economic policies. Some have even accused him of manipulating the market to his own advantage.

The crypto manipulation allegations stem from Trump’s links to World Liberty Finance, which has been aggressively accumulating cryptocurrency and pivoting its strategy to focus on digital assets.

According to CZ, these attacks might be the remnants of the previous administration’s smear campaign tactics to invalidate Trump’s policies.
