Oregon's Department of Justice is suing leading crypto exchange Coinbase for allegedly offering 31 cryptocurrencies, including XRP, as securities.

The Oregon Justice Department, which is being led by Attorney General Dan Rayfield, has sued the San Francisco-based exchange for allegedly breaching the state’s financial laws by selling unregistered securities to its residents.

The state is now claiming that 18 more tokens are covered in addition to the 13 mentioned in the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission’s case against the exchange last year. Among these are LINK, UNI, and COMP.

The lawsuit, which was filed recently, also mentions that the exchange sold the tokens as investment contracts, thereby classifying them as securities under the Howey Test.

"Unregistration financial products and services to Oregon residents can have serious consequences for our state's economy and financial stability," AG Rayfield said in a statement.

The state's lawsuit comes as the crypto industry faces increasing legal pressure from the SEC, which has been sued several times by the exchange.

Earlier this year, a New York federal judge ruled that XRP is not a security in itself and that programmatic sales by Ripple on digital exchanges weren't investment contracts.

The ruling also saw the federal securities regulator drop its case against the exchange and agree to settle with Stellar and TRx Chain.
