The official NBA social media accounts were victims of a hack. The league's PR team confirmed to Front Office Sports that their social media accounts were hacked after discovering that someone shared a fake press release saying the NBA was launching a new crypto coin.

The fake announcement said the NBA was launching NBA Coin, "a groundbreaking digital asset designed to redefine fan engagement, transactions and experiences within the basketball ecosystem." The release said the coin would be launched on the Solana Network.

As of Tuesday afternoon, the NBA was still being hacked as the official X/Twitter account posted the press release multiple times. Shortly after the posts, the league seemingly took control of the account, as the reposts were quickly deleted.

Being hacked isn't a good look for the NBA, but something like this happens on social media once in a while. The last time something like this happened to the NBA was last month when the Dallas Mavericks traded Luka Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers.

After the trade was made, Mavericks general manager Nico Harrison explained why he traded Luka Doncic for Anthony Davis. "We’ve had a vision and a culture that we’ve wanted to create since we’ve been here and the players that we’re bringing in we believe exemplify that," Harrison said, per FOX 4. "We think defense wins championships, and we’re bringing in one of the best two-way players in the league."
