Pointing out that President Trump recently recognized Bitcoin as the “only truly decentralized cryptocurrency” and that it is a strategic asset for national prosperity, Saylor said that Global capital is migrating to digital networks.

As part of its efforts to combat cryptocurrency fraud, the U.S. government has seized $12.6 million in Bitcoin from a Puerto Rico man who was accused of defrauding Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) lenders and collecting unemployment benefits during the pandemic.

The Department of Justice (DOJ) announced on Friday that 34-year-old Edwin Medina-Mendez had agreed to forfeit the Bitcoins, which were valued at approximately $12.6 million at the time of the offense. The court also imposed a $10,000 daily fine on Medina-Mendez for each day he fails to pay the full forfeiture amount.

Medina-Mendez pleaded guilty in December 2023 to one count of bank fraud and one count of mail fraud. He admitted to defrauding PPP lenders by submitting false loan applications for seven restaurant businesses.

To obtain these benefits, he falsely certified that he was unemployed and actively searching for work, despite having income from the PPP loans.
