The company announced the purchase of the $12.9 million BTC on Tuesday.

According to the announcement, Metaplanet acquired the flagship digital asset at an average buy price of 14.3 million yen, or about $95,951 per BTC.

Metaplanet’s BTC haul rose significantly from the 1,761 BTC it held on Dec. 31, 2024. Notably, the company held just 141 bitcoins at the end of June 2024.

The fresh Bitcoin buying spree comes after the investment firm adopted BTC as a treasury strategy in April, a move inspired by Michael Saylor's Strategy (formerly MicroStrategy).

With the next buy, Strategy could surpass the 500k mark, especially as current prices present a buy the dip opportunity.

On its part, Metaplanet is looking to hit 10,000 BTC in 2025 and double that over the next year as it targets 21,000 bitcoin by the end of 2026.
