Metaplanet Adds 135 BTC to Its Holdings, Bringing Total to 2,235 BTC
Feb 25, 2025 at 03:58 pm
Metaplanet, the Japanese investment firm that has become one of the most aggressive buyers of Bitcoin, has added to its holdings with a fresh 135 BTC purchase.

Japanese investment firm Metaplanet has added 135 BTC to its portfolio, bringing its total Bitcoin (BTC) holdings to 2,235 BTC.
The company announced the purchase of the $12.9 million BTC on Tuesday.
According to the announcement, Metaplanet acquired the flagship digital asset at an average buy price of 14.3 million yen, or about $95,951 per BTC.
Metaplanet’s BTC haul rose significantly from the 1,761 BTC it held on Dec. 31, 2024. Notably, the company held just 141 bitcoins at the end of June 2024.
The fresh Bitcoin buying spree comes after the investment firm adopted BTC as a treasury strategy in April, a move inspired by Michael Saylor's Strategy (formerly MicroStrategy).
On Monday, Feb. 24, Saylor announced that his company had acquired an additional $1.99 billion worth of Bitcoin. The 20,356 BTC brought the firm's total holdings to 499,096 BTC acquired for over $33.1 billion.
Strategy has acquired 20,356 BTC for ~$1.99B at ~$97,514 per bitcoin and has achieved BTC Yield of 6.9% YTD 2025. As of 2/23/2025, we hodl 499,096 $BTC acquired for ~$33.1 billion at ~$66,357 per bitcoin. $MSTR https://t.co/mNWDaXRE7N

With the next buy, Strategy could surpass the 500k mark, especially as current prices present a buy the dip opportunity.
On its part, Metaplanet is looking to hit 10,000 BTC in 2025 and double that over the next year as it targets 21,000 bitcoin by the end of 2026.
Bitcoin was trading around $88,670 on Tuesday morning, down more than 7.3% in the past 24 hours. The entire market was down nearly 10% as a massive sell-off wiped out millions in crypto liquidations.
