A British wheelchair basketball player has proposed to his girlfriend at the opening of the Invictus Games in Vancouver.

James Cairns, from Holmfirth in Yorkshire, popped the question to Hannah Wild during Team UK’s match on Sunday.

The 35-year-old celebrated the moment with his teammates, family, friends and he and Hannah’s two-year-old son.

James, who lost his leg to a sniper bullet in Afghanistan, now competes in three sports for the Invictus Games – biathlon, swimming and wheelchair basketball.
