A recent analysis by the financial services company Chain found that the total amount of BTC held by publicly listed companies has increased by 60% over the last two months. This surge in corporate Bitcoin adoption is largely attributed to the recent market downturn, which has prompted many companies to explore alternative assets to hedge against inflation and market volatility.

As of now, these companies collectively hold 587,687 BTC, which constitutes 20% of the total Bitcoin held by all entities, according to data from BitcoinTreasuries. This growing corporate interest in Bitcoin has also led to a surge in demand for the ‘Poor Man’s Bitcoin ETF,’ an ETF that invests in companies holding substantial amounts of BTC in their corporate financial reserves.

The asset management firm Bitwise filed a registration with the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) on December 27 to launch a new ETF named the “Bitcoin Standard Corporations ETF.” This fund will invest in companies that hold at least 1,000 Bitcoins, as reported by the SEC filing.

Bitwise has set specific criteria for the companies included in the index, such as requiring them to hold a minimum of 1,000 Bitcoins and considering other financial conditions.

This move by Bitwise comes amidst a growing trend of Bitcoin treasury operations among corporations. For instance, publicly listed companies now account for 49% (73 out of 149) of all entities that hold Bitcoin, according to data from BitcoinTreasuries.

Recently, many companies outside the crypto industry have also joined the race to accumulate Bitcoin. For example, companies like Rumble, Anixa Biosciences, Interactive Strength, Hoth Therapeutics, Nano Labs, Solidion Technology, and Cosmos Health, operating in biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, sports, cloud services, and video sharing, have announced Bitcoin purchases. These announcements were followed by an immediate rise in the stock value of these companies.

Moreover, Strive, an asset management company co-founded by Vivek Ramaswamy, has filed for a Bitcoin Bond ETF. This ETF is designed to invest in convertible bonds issued by companies that Strive anticipates will allocate most or all of the funds raised from these bonds to purchase Bitcoin, which are referred to as “Bitcoin Bonds” in the filing.
