
Tokyo-listed firm Metaplanet (TYO:9271) is aiming to boost its Bitcoin (BTC) holdings to 10,000 BTC over the next three years, the company’s CEO said in a post on Twitter.
“We are expanding our Bitcoin holdings to 10,000 BTC by utilizing the most accretive capital market tools available to us,” Simon Gerovich said in a post on Monday.
In the post, Gerovich also highlighted Metaplanet’s performance in 2024, during which the company “broke records, expanded [its] Bitcoin treasury, and reinforced [its] position as Asia’s leading Bitcoin treasury company.”

“We are also continuing to expand our partnerships to advance Bitcoin adoption in Japan and globally, and exploring innovative opportunities to grow Metaplanet’s impact in Japan and the Bitcoin ecosystem,” he added.
Metaplanet began purchasing Bitcoin for its strategic treasury reserve at a steady rate in May 2024. In June, the company purchased $6.2 million in Bitcoin, followed by $2.5 million in July, $7 million in October, and $11.7 million in November.
Its latest Bitcoin purchase was 620 BTC for $60 million in late December. In total, Metaplanet currently holds 1,761.98 BTC. For comparison, MicroStrategy (NASDAQ:MSTR) holds 447,470 BTC, with its most recent purchase of $101 million announced at the end of December 2024.
According to a December 23 notice from Metaplanet, the company saw its Bitcoin yield reach nearly 310% between October 1, 2024 to December 23, 2024. This compares to a 41% Bitcoin yield reached between July 1, 2024 to September 30, 2024.
