Bitcoin exchange-traded funds (ETFs) have set an impressive record since their launch a year ago. These products have massive inflows and reshaped the ETF landscape, solidifying BTC’s place in mainstream finance.
Collectively, Bitcoin ETFs have amassed over 1 million BTC, currently valued at over $95 billion in the market. This rapid adoption has seen four BTC ETFs enter the ranks of the top 20 best-performing U.S. ETF launches in history. BlackRock’s IBIT, Fidelity’s FBTC, ARK Invest’s ARKB, and Bitwise’s BITB lead the way.
In a remarkable achievement, Bitcoin spot ETFs have outpaced gold ETFs in assets under management (AUM). It took BTC ETFs a year to achieve this milestone, while gold ETFs took two decades. Currently, gold ETFs hold $128 billion in AUM, highlighting the speed and scale of Bitcoin ETFs’ rise.
Here's a snapshot of just how significant the $BTC ETFs have been:

BlackRock, a financial behemoth whose CEO Larry Fink notably dismissed Bitcoin in 2017 as an “index of money laundering,” has now become one of the top four largest holders of BTC in the world. BlackRock’s holdings now rival those of Satoshi Nakamoto’s wallet, Binance, and MicroStrategy, which is helmed by Bitcoin advocate Michael Saylor.
The surge in Bitcoin ETFs has garnered attention for its potential to usher institutional investors into the crypto market. The funds' success showcases a growing acceptance of BTC as an asset class and a shift in sentiment among traditional financial institutions.
Rapid adoption of Bitcoin ETFs set a new benchmark in the investment landscape, with their performance outshining even long-established commodity ETFs. As Bitcoin ETFs continued to gain traction, the price of BTC also saw significant gains throughout the year. In December 2024, BTC price successfully breached the iconic $100,000 mark.
