Celebrated Canadian wildlife artist Robert Bateman’s work has landed on one of the Royal Canadian Mint’s newest coins.

Bateman, 94, is known for his realistic paintings of animals and nature, and one of his works, Mustang Country, has been reimagined for a fine silver coin by the mint.

The scene is “poignantly captured” by Bateman’s painting, which depicts a stallion leading a herd down for a morning drink, according to Art Country Canada.

The mint says the larger-than-average coin, which also includes the words “CANADA 2025,” showcases Bateman’s photo-realistic details on the reverse side, now with a “bright lustre” thanks to the polished 99.99 per cent pure silver.

The work shows the herd at a slough, where one is reflected in the water.

The coin adds a “luminous quality to the water’s reflective surface,” the mint says, allowing the art to “shine in silver.” It has a $30 face value and weighs 62 grams.

It also has an engraved reproduction of Bateman’s autograph.

The piece — which retails for $249.95 — comes in a black beauty box, and there’s low mintage, with just 4,000 for purchase, according to the Crown corporation.

The obverse side of both the silver and gold coin features the effigy of His Majesty King Charles III by Steven Rosati, another Canadian artist.

It was back in the 1970s when Bateman’s wildlife and nature work “began to receive critical acclaim and to attract an enormous following,” reads his bio.
